Recap from the Inaugural Palm Beach Women's Classic Tournament

The Inaugural Palm Beach Women's Classic Tournament was held on May 1 at the home of USBGF Board of Directors member Jason Briggs. Katie Scalamandre, 2000 Backgammon World Champion, won the Championship division. Lee Genud, 1981 World Champion; Karen Davis, USBGF Board member and American Backgammon Hall of Fame honoree; and Candace Mayeron, director of the Los Angeles Open and California State Champions and USBGF Lifetime Achievement Award recipient tied for second. Lisa Speer won the Intermediate division, and Sophy Letts won the Rookie division. Twenty women played in the event. It was sponsored by Women in Backgammon and raised over $1000 for the US Backgammon Foundation women's fund.


Jason Briggs graciously hosted a brunch on April 30 in honor of Lee Genud, with Lee and Karen and Katie and Candace playing exhibition teaching matches.
